Share a specific classroom project or moment.\r\n\r\nThe resources are being used to help students prepare for Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) competitions. As a counselor, I created the Donors Choose project to help ensure that students' basic needs were met and that financial circumstances would not prevent them from participating in opportunities they were excited about. The donations included slacks, skirts, neckties, undergarments, and toiletries for students who needed assistance purchasing the clothing and personal items required for competition.\r\n\r\nA particularly meaningful moment has been seeing students who wanted to compete but were concerned about being able to afford the necessary attire realize that they could still participate. These resources allowed them to focus on preparing for competition rather than worrying about whether they had the appropriate clothing or personal necessities.\r\n\r\nHow did your students react when they first saw the materials?\r\n\r\nThe students were excited, appreciative, and relieved when they saw the materials. For some students, the donations meant they could participate in CTSO competitions without placing an additional financial burden on their families. It was especially rewarding to see students recognize that people they did not know personally were willing to support them and invest in their success.\r\n\r\nThe donations provided more than clothing and toiletries. They gave students confidence and helped them feel prepared, included, and valued. Students were able to see that their financial circumstances did not have to determine whether they could take advantage of an opportunity to compete and represent their school.\r\n\r\nWhat are the next steps for your students on a current classroom lesson or project?\r\n\r\nThe next steps are to continue preparing students for CTSO competitions by developing their technical, leadership, communication, teamwork, and professional presentation skills. Students will continue practicing their competition skills while learning how to present themselves confidently and professionally.\r\n\r\nWith the support of the Donors Choose contributors, students who otherwise may not have been able to afford the required clothing and personal items can now participate alongside their peers. Our goal is to remove barriers wherever possible so that students can take advantage of opportunities that prepare them for college, careers, leadership, and life beyond high school.\r\n\r\nUltimately, this project is about more than preparing students for a competition. It is about making sure that a student's desire to participate and succeed is not limited by their ability to afford the necessities required to do so.","fullyFundedDate":1777988639462,"projectUrl":"project/big-dreams-limited-means-unlimited-pot/10168068/","projectTitle":"Big Dreams, Limited Means, Unlimited Potential","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Deunderia Smith-Wraggs","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4219176_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1657585793542","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4219176"},{"teacherId":3662433,"projectId":9641198,"letterContent":"My students and I would like to send a big thank you for your help and support.
