Food Deserts... We are situated right dead smack in the middle of them. This is a problem and is causing a serious problem and is affecting more and more people everyday. My thought to myself was how can my students and I make an impact in the community in which we live? With this being an agriculture class, I thought of us trying to help those that don't have sufficient enough food to eat. This project will help in two way: First, my students will have to plan, plant, maintain, harvest, organize and distribute food to needy families in a discrete way. Secondly, this project will help with the fight against hunger. My students will grow the fresh produce (tomatoes, okra, cucumbers, squash, turnip and mustard greens), harvest the produce and pack the produce in book bags and place them in different schools around the district where the bags can be picked up and carried home over the weekend, emptied and the contents used and the bag brought back for the next weekend.
