I know the items that I requested were quite random: food, markers, and paint sticks. However that is kind of how things work when I'm teaching; you never know what specific needs some year for year.\r\n\r\nEvery day my kids are encouraged to bring a snack to school, but we know that is not realistic for some families. My snack box is there for any kid at any time. Cereal was bagged up and they can get it when they need. \r\n\r\nThe dry erase markers are used daily during out phonics time. The kids use them to stretch out words and practice new sounds.\r\n\r\nThe paint sticks are being used already! Because of your generosity, leftover unopened school food is finding its way into the hands of elementary students who truly need it. Nearly every day, the fridge is filled after breakfast and lunch. It is completely empty by the end of the day—a powerful reminder of how many children depend on this support. What makes this effort even more special is that my 3rd-grade students help restock the fridge themselves, learning empathy, responsibility, and the impact of caring for one another.
