For children who learn best through touch and sight, seeing a sea of bright paint bottles, stacks of real clay pots, and a variety of cool sponge shapes immediately sparked their curiosity. My students absolutely loved painting the pots, using the sponge tools to identify different colors, and even diving into finger painting to get the full sensory experience. While nature had its own plans and our real flowers unfortunately didn't make it, we used our paints and brushes to create beautiful artificial flowers instead. Carrying those bright, hand-painted creations out to their mothers and grandmothers was an incredibly proud moment for my students, who got to experience the powerful joy of gifting something they made with their own hands.\r\n\r\nNow that our Mother's Day project is complete, our next steps are to keep using these resources to build on our hard-earned fine motor and sensory skills. Since we learned that real seeds can be a bit tricky, we are going to use our plastic plant labels and leftover supplies to practice visual sorting, matching colors, and exploring different textures in our daily independent living lessons. I then brought out the Blockzee Balance, and the students cheered as they realized that if they put a \"5\" block on one side and a \"4\" and \"1\" block on the other, the scale balanced! This concrete, tactile demonstration of equality was a major breakthrough.
