Your donation will allow us to spend our donated funds on gifts for the students and not worry about the essentials.\r\n\r\nIn our small community, we have many low-income families. Our gift drive reached 41 students and 24 families. Our guidance counselor and secretary collect the names and money for this project. They compile a list of students by age and gender that is anonymous. They have enabled me to grab that last-minute extra practice that students need for those tricky topics that sometimes take a little more time to master. It's been really helpful to be able to quickly find something that reinforces what we're working on without having to start from scratch every time.\r\n\r\nThey've also been incredibly useful for those inevitable sick days. Being able to find a meaningful, well-structured activity to leave for students takes a lot of stress out of being out of the classroom. Instead of scrambling to create something at the last minute, I can find a resource that keeps students practicing important skills and keeps the class moving forward.\r\n\r\nHaving access to these resources really cuts down on planning time. Rather than building everything myself, I'm able to spend that time searching for quality materials that are already out there and designed well. It makes it much easier to respond to what students need in the moment—whether that's extra practice, review, or a different way of looking at a concept.\r\n\r\nOverall, the TPT gift cards have been a huge help in making sure students have meaningful work while also saving a lot of time on my end. It sets the tone for the whole class and gets everyone thinking right from the beginning.\r\n\r\nOne of the best parts is that no students are able to fly under the radar anymore. Since everyone is up at the boards, each student is on the spot at the start of class every single day. It's a quick way for me to see who understands the material, who needs help, and where we might need to slow down or review. It's also created more discussion between students as they compare work and talk through problems.\r\n\r\nOverall, the whiteboards have been a really valuable tool in our classroom. No more writing with dying markers—if one runs out, students can just toss it and grab a new one without missing a beat. It's such a simple change, but it has made a big difference in keeping things moving and cutting down on those little frustrations that used to slow us down.\r\n\r\nI've been using these resources to start each class with a fresh problem set at the boards, and it has been really great for getting students engaged right away. Instead of easing into the lesson, everyone is up, thinking, and working from the moment class begins. It sets a productive tone for the rest of the period and helps students get their brains in \"math mode\" immediately.\r\n\r\nAnother big benefit is that no one is able to fly under the radar anymore. Since students are up at the boards working through problems, everyone is on the spot at the start of class every single day. It creates accountability, encourages participation, and gives me a quick snapshot of where students are at before we move forward with the lesson. I wish I had recorded their reaction when they found out someone cared enough to sponsor their classroom — it was truly priceless.\r\n\r\nRight now, students are using the materials to build geometric shapes while working on calculating the area of composite figures. This is often a challenging concept, as it requires students to take an abstract figure and decompose it into familiar shapes such as triangles, rectangles, trapezoids, and semicircles. Having the Geostix to create tangible models that they can physically manipulate and dissect has made a meaningful difference, particularly for some of my struggling learners and those who have difficulty with spatial reasoning.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, students will be using the protractors to create geometric constructions — bisecting angles and midpoints, constructing perpendicular bisectors, and ultimately completing a final construction that brings all of these concepts together, with an added element of artistic freedom.","fullyFundedDate":1767984148873,"projectUrl":"project/help-my-students-build-their-understandi/9846473/","projectTitle":"Help My Students Build Their Understanding of Geometry!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Merrill","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1858242_orig.jpg?crop=1513,1513,x802,y1073&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753102478999","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1858242"},{"teacherId":3636912,"projectId":9443108,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your immense support of our little school in Maine! This grant still has been able to help and impact everyone (the gym teacher is especially excited - he said it was like Christmas when boxes started arriving) and to give students different ways of being active and working/having fun together.
