Your support has already made a meaningful difference in how my students engage with learning each day.\r\n\r\nWe've been using the new materials in a project-based learning unit centered on pioneer life and westward expansion. Students are exploring what daily life was like for early settlers, and they've been especially excited to participate in hands-on activities like churning butter, creating simple tools, and comparing pioneer chores to modern conveniences. The books you provided have given them valuable background knowledge and real-life stories that help them better understand the challenges and resilience of pioneer families. The classroom supplies have allowed them to create journals, artifacts, and visual projects that bring this time period to life.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue building their understanding of pioneer life by completing a \"day in the life\" project, where they will write and present from the perspective of a child living during that time. They'll also reflect on how innovation has changed daily life over time, making connections between the past and present.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has helped create an engaging, interactive learning experience that my students will remember for a long time. Because of you, our students now have the tools they need to explore science through real experimentation and creativity. Supplies like markers, colored pencils, tape dispensers, and even a microwave for thermal energy investigations will allow students to design experiments, build models, and see scientific concepts come to life. These materials turn curiosity into discovery. Instead of just reading about science, students will be able to test ideas, observe results, and learn by doing—which is where the real excitement of science happens.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in our students and helping inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and problem-solvers.","fullyFundedDate":1768763467131,"projectUrl":"project/learning-science-by-doing/10037733/","projectTitle":"Learning Science by Doing","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Fennema","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8651627"},{"teacherId":8154263,"projectId":9993785,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, our kitchen classroom has completely leveled up. We were able to purchase new crepe pans and wok pans, and they have already made a huge difference in our students' learning. Instead of trying to make crepes in pans that were too thick or uneven, students are now able to practice proper crepe technique the way it is meant to be done. They are learning how to control heat, swirl the batter evenly, and flip with confidence. During our international foods unit, they also use the new wok pans to cook fried rice and chow mein each semester. The woks allow them to practice authentic stir-fry technique, high heat cooking, and proper ingredient movement for a much better final product.\r\n\r\nWhen the pans arrived and I showed them to my classes, the reaction was priceless. There were happy smiles, cheers, and lots of excited questions about when we would get to use them. Many students immediately started talking about how their food would turn out better. It was such a powerful moment because they felt supported and taken seriously as young chefs.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue building their skills through hands-on cooking labs that focus on technique and flavor development. We will be practicing more advanced crepe fillings and sauces, and refining stir-fry timing and knife skills with the wok pans. Your support is not just giving them better equipment — it is giving them confidence, real-world cooking skills, and pride in the meals they create. Thanks to your generosity, my 7th grade students have been able to explore \"Born a Crime\" as a meaningful entry point into South Africa's geography, culture, and history. The memoir has helped students connect real-life experiences to larger concepts like apartheid, urbanization, and social justice. It's been a powerful tool for teaching critical thinking, empathy, and global awareness—all through the lens of geography.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom has become more engaging and student-driven. From annotating texts to participating in thoughtful discussions, students are making personal and academic connections to the story. One student who usually struggles with reading said, \"This is the first book I've actually wanted to keep reading.\" The memoir has created space for all learners—including ELLs and students with IEPs—to engage deeply with the material. The arrival of these magazines created an instant buzz of excitement among my students. In 7th grade Social Studies, Junior Scholastic has helped us connect current events to history, with students diving into topics like global trade and international conflict with genuine curiosity. In 8th grade English, Scope and Upfront have been game-changers for reading comprehension and critical thinking. One memorable moment was during a persuasive writing unit—students used Upfront articles to support their arguments with real-world evidence, and I watched them become more confident writers and thinkers in the process.\r\n\r\nThese resources are helping bring the world into our classroom in ways that a textbook simply can't. Students now regularly ask if the new issues have arrived and choose articles for independent reading and discussion. As we head into end-of-year projects, students will be using magazine features to research and present on contemporary issues they care about.
