Each group is full of unique and hard-working learners. They are eager and ready to try their best, but writing is a challenging skill for many of our students. I noticed that students were needing close proximity to writing supports, and that was difficult to provide when the resources were held stationary at the front of the room. With the iPad I planned on providing students with more access to writing supports, while being able to move the resources around the room.\r\nIt has been really neat to see how the use of the iPad has encouraged writers in my room by providing them with supports and scaffolds that allow them to be successful. Our curriculum requires students to write daily. They are taking notes, quoting text, using graphic organizers, and writing essays. Many of my students have amazing ideas, but they struggle to get them down on paper. There are a few ways we use to iPad to support writing. Scaffolds from the iPad are projected onto the screen for all students to access. Transferring notes and quotes from a book is a challenging skill for many readers and scholars. Many students have started to request to sit at the small group table near the iPad so that they can use sentence starters and writing supports from the screen. They also ask to view the digital text so that they can annotate it, and highlight quotes to support their notetaking.\r\nWe recently went on a field trip to Junior Achievement. The students brought the iPad to record interviews, take photos for the class magazine and before the trip they practiced their speeches on it. In this current culture, the students said recording themselves before they present in front of others has helped build their confidence.\r\nI am excited to see how we will continue to find new ways to incorporate our iPad into the classroom. It is taking time to learn new programs and functions, but we are all happy to have this piece of technology in our room. Our next unit requires students to record PSA's for natural disasters. I know they will have fun creating and editing their projects on this device.","fullyFundedDate":1771025988846,"projectUrl":"project/proximity-teaching/9983539/","projectTitle":"Proximity Teaching","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hiveley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4539514_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1767910825961","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4539514"},{"teacherId":3550891,"projectId":9847823,"letterContent":"This donation has been amazing for my students and the entire school. I have a neat and organized way to give the school what they need. I have supplied the carts with deodorant, ChapStick, toothpaste and toothbrushes, socks, and even feminine hygiene products. This has been a safe place for students to self-serve and get what they need. I have even had kids ask if they can make donations to our carts. They give something and take something. Our community is safe and understanding. The students know that it is there and don't feel they have to take more than they need. They use it up and then grab another. \r\n\r\nThe love and care that they all share is wonderful. I have students needing something and they tell another student. They both then stop by and grab the necessities. This has been a true act of love and compassion for students and teachers. It is open to ALL.
