I work at an amazing school that welcomes students from all around the world. Many of our students' families have come from refugee camps, and have spent years seeking security for their families. My students face struggles at home that can make it difficult to focus on learning, but they still come to school everyday ready to try. My students want to learn and grow, and become successful adults. At school, I give my students a safe place to be themselves. We support each other through whatever struggles each day may bring - both academic and personal. Our building implements a "Yoga 4 Classrooms" program that provides students with tools to self-regulate their emotions. Yoga helps my students reduce their stress and anxiety, helps them focus on the present moment and encourages them to be more aware of themselves. Everyday we work hard to become stronger readers, mathematicians and people of good character.
