They eagerly explored the drums, shakers, and rhythm sticks, carefully touching each instrument and asking questions about the sounds they could make. One of our most memorable moments was our first rhythm circle, where students worked together to create patterns using fast, slow, loud, and soft beats. Watching them listen to one another, take turns, and proudly perform as a group truly showed the power of learning through music.\r\n\r\nWe are using these new resources to support our newly adopted curriculums' focus on social-emotional development, creativity, and physical coordination. During music and movement time, students experiment with tempo and rhythm, strengthening fine and gross motor skills while expressing themselves through sound. They are also learning important social skills—such as cooperation, self-regulation, and confidence—by playing instruments together and following group rhythms.\r\n\r\nOur next steps include connecting percussion to storytelling and literacy. Students will soon use instruments to add sound effects to familiar stories and songs, helping them make meaningful connections between music, language, and imagination. We also plan to explore rhythms from different cultures, expanding their understanding of the world through music.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, our classroom is filled with curiosity, collaboration, and joyful noise. You didn't just provide instruments—you helped give our students a creative outlet where their little hands can make a big impact.","fullyFundedDate":1766172353701,"projectUrl":"project/little-hands-big-rhythm-exploring-perc/9855915/","projectTitle":"Little Hands, Big Rhythm: Exploring Percussion Instruments Together","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Osborn","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8980749_orig.jpg?crop=1249,1249,x1612,y26&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1680577735649","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/osbornpk"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_67065","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":781,"numTeachers":24,"percentFrplEligible":11,"percentAsian":71,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":13,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"32.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":83.1,"schoolId":67065,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Canyon View Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Canyon View Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/irvine-unified-school-district/canyon-view-elementary-school/67065"}
