My kindergarten and first grade students have thoroughly enjoyed exploring aspects of storytelling and various principles of drama through these children's books.\r\n\r\nStudents explored imagination using the book, \"What to Do with a Box\" by Jane Yolen. After reading the book as a class, we then discussed the different things the box became in the book. Following the discussion, the kids were presented with a physical box and the opportunity to use it and their imagination to turn the box into something new.\r\n\r\nAnother example of how my classes used the children's books purchased through this project is our alphabet letters drama lessons. Your donation of these materials has helped me teach my students through hands-on activities.\r\n\r\nThe main activity that I have done with this is creating a graph of the quantity of freshwater. In their science notebooks, they created a chart of percentages of fresh water found in a specific type of body of water. We then use the receipt paper and a meter stick, which was 100 cm and graphed it as if it were 100%. Students were able to truly see how much freshwater we were able to drink.
