The chair is rarely empty, and the new books have sparked genuine excitement. Students are not only reading more, but they're also sharing recommendations and discussing what they're reading with their peers. The new chair has added a warm, inviting touch to the space, often occupied by a reader deeply immersed in a story. Some even line up during breaks just to have a turn in the new chair! This enhanced environment has made reading feel less like a task and more like a cherished escape.\r\n\r\nThe books you provided are flying off the shelves—students are exploring new topics, discovering favorite authors, and developing a deeper love for reading. In fact, students have already expressed interest in creating another project to be able to read even more of their favorite books!","fullyFundedDate":1736778612304,"projectUrl":"project/pen-paper-and-poetry-writing-our-way/9003142/","projectTitle":"Pen, Paper, and Poetry: Writing Our Way to Peace","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Ho Sang","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7747655_orig.jpg?crop=1066,1066,x266,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1612229214320","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/drhosang"},{"teacherId":9495574,"projectId":8274601,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, this project has profoundly impacted our students, transforming not only their technical skills but also their confidence, creativity, and aspirations for the future. The introduction of disposable film cameras to our photography course has opened doors that many of our students never imagined possible.\r\n\r\nFor many, this was their first experience with photography beyond their smartphones, and the tangible nature of film has helped them develop patience, discipline, and a deeper appreciation for the artistic process. Unlike digital photography, which allows for unlimited attempts, film photography encouraged our students to slow down, think critically about each shot, and truly engage with composition, lighting, and storytelling.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting outcomes of this project is the lasting enthusiasm it has sparked. Several students have invested in their own professional cameras, eager to build on the foundation they developed in class. This shift from passive observers to active creators has been incredible to witness. In fact, some of our now-seniors have used their photography portfolios—developed through this project—to apply to art schools, an opportunity they might not have pursued otherwise.\r\n\r\nBeyond technical skills, photography has become a meaningful form of self-expression for many of our students. They've captured their communities, their families, and their own personal narratives in ways that are both powerful and moving. Seeing their work displayed and celebrated has given them a sense of pride and accomplishment that extends beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, this project has led to a unique sustainability initiative. Our students have embraced the challenge of recycling and repurposing cameras, exploring creative ways to extend the life of these tools while learning about environmental responsibility. This added dimension has further deepened their engagement and critical thinking skills.\r\n\r\nYour support has made a lasting difference. Thanks to you, our students are not only learning a new craft but also seeing new possibilities for their futures—whether as artists, photographers, or simply individuals who now view the world through a more thoughtful and creative lens. We are beyond grateful for the opportunities you have made possible.","fullyFundedDate":1711555139614,"projectUrl":"project/picture-this-fostering-creativity-with/8274601/","projectTitle":"Picture This: Fostering Creativity With Film Photography!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ahmed","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9495574_orig.jpg?crop=2048,2048,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1710858888926","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9495574"},{"teacherId":9614059,"projectId":8528954,"letterContent":"The microwave and mini fridge have already become essential tools in our classroom. We've used them for a variety of experiments, including demonstrations on how different temperatures affect food and liquids. In health and nutrition lessons, students have enjoyed making healthy snacks while learning about the importance of balanced diets. The fridge allows us to store perishable ingredients for seasonal activities, like cooking demonstrations that tie into our cultural explorations.\r\nOne of the most exciting ways we're using these new resources is in our exploration of world cultures through food. For instance, during Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, students will be able to try different dishes while learning about the history and traditions behind the food. We also recently had a lesson on Haitian Heritage, where we explored Haitian cuisine, made traditional dishes, and discussed the significance of Haitian Independence Day. The microwave and fridge helped us make these lessons more interactive and engaging!\r\nWhen the microwave and mini fridge were first introduced to the classroom, the students were thrilled! They couldn't believe how these new resources would allow them to bring lessons to life in such a hands-on way. Some students were excited about the opportunity to cook together, while others were curious about how the appliances would be used in our cultural lessons. The excitement was contagious, and many students expressed how much they appreciated the chance to explore food from different cultures.\r\nUp next, we are planning a cultural exchange event where students will cook and share dishes from different parts of the world. This will include foods we've learned about during Haitian Heritage exploration and Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, as well as other global cuisines we'll study. Students will work in small groups to prepare dishes using the microwave and fridge, while also researching the historical and cultural significance of the food they are preparing. The event will culminate in a class-wide tasting session where students will present their dishes and share what they've learned.\r\nWe are also continuing our exploration of food through anthropology lessons, using cuisine as a lens to study the social, historical, and cultural contexts of different communities. The microwave and mini fridge will allow us to keep the ingredients fresh and explore seasonal activities that incorporate perishable food items. Your support has made all of this possible, and we are excited to continue our learning journey with these new resources!","fullyFundedDate":1724458137539,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-classroom-that-is-well-equipp/8528954/","projectTitle":"Building a Classroom That Is Well-Equipped for Cultural Exploration!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Berkeley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/berkeley"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_24024","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":453,"numTeachers":50,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":19,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":77,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"5 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"9.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":55.4,"schoolId":24024,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Bronx Latin School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Bronx Latin School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/bronx-latin-school/24024"}
