With enough glasses for every student and staff member, we were able to come together as a school to witness the solar eclipse safely and meaningfully. Leading up to the event, teachers incorporated eclipse-related lessons into science, reading, and art activities. In one memorable project, students created eclipse viewers and modeled the movement of the sun, moon, and Earth using flashlights and foam balls. On the day of the eclipse, students excitedly gathered outside, eyes to the sky with their new glasses, watching a once-in-a-lifetime event unfold with awe and wonder.\r\n\r\nWhen the glasses first arrived, the students could hardly contain their excitement. For many of them, this was their very first experience with scientific equipment tied directly to a real-world event. They eagerly passed around the glasses, peeking at lights indoors and asking endless questions about how they worked and what they would see during the eclipse. Their curiosity sparked deeper conversations about astronomy, light, and the importance of eye safety during celestial events.\r\n\r\nThanks to the success of this experience, our students are now more eager than ever to explore space and science topics. Currently, we're diving into a unit on the solar system, where students are researching planets and designing travel posters for fictional space vacations. The eclipse glasses donation opened a door to deeper learning and helped our students see themselves as young scientists. We're incredibly grateful to our donors for giving our students this unforgettable opportunity.","fullyFundedDate":1709920451103,"projectUrl":"project/total-solar-eclipse-experience/8198528/","projectTitle":"Total Solar Eclipse Experience","teacherDisplayName":"Coach Fore","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8157593_orig.jpg?crop=1508,1508,x812,y108&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1636992814102","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8157593"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_17034","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":484,"numTeachers":30,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":95,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"16.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":66.0,"schoolId":17034,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Bob Hope Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Bob Hope Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/southwest-independent-school-district/bob-hope-elementary-school/17034"}
