Because of your contribution, our youngest learners now have access to 14 new and engaging, age-appropriate books (one with a story telling kit) that help them understand emotions, practice self-regulation, and build empathy and social skills. \r\n\r\nI have been using these new books during weekly SEL lessons that are aligned with our K–5 curriculum. Each weekly lesson is 15-20 minutes, we play a listening game, read a story that focuses on the monthly character trait, discuss it, then practice taking turns by giving compliments. So far, we have read books about responsibility, gratitude, apologizing, making mistakes, perseverance, kindness, how to listen, and empathy. \r\n\r\nOne Wednesday, they spent about 10 minutes sharing, looking at and just exploring the new books that we would be reading during class meetings. \r\n\r\nThis donation will have a meaningful impact on our 18 preschool students, not only this year but years to come. Watching a fidget or calming tool they designed print layer by layer is incredibly motivating and meaningful, especially when they know it will be used to support themselves or classmates. It gives learning real purpose and shows students that their ideas can positively impact their learning environment.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who typically struggle with engagement or self-regulation have especially connected with this technology. Some students who learn best through hands-on experiences have thrived, while others have taken pride in creating tools that help them stay calm and focused.
