These new texts have helped us introduce important reading skills such as analyzing an author's purpose, comparing different cultural perspectives, and making connections between personal experiences and the stories we read. Students are not only practicing comprehension strategies, but they're also developing empathy, confidence, and a love of reading.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading looks joyful and engaging. Students often curl up with a book that feels like it was written just for them. Independent reading time has become one of the most anticipated parts of the day, and the excitement spills over into class discussions where students bring their own backgrounds and insights into the conversation.\r\n\r\nSome of the most powerful moments have come from students who are new to the United States. One student lit up when she found a novel that featured a character who spoke her native language at home—something she had never seen in a school text before. Another student who had struggled with reading stamina now regularly finishes books cover to cover because he finally sees himself reflected in the stories.\r\n\r\nYour support has truly transformed the way my students experience reading.
