I first learned how to knit when I was 13 and I cannot begin to describe how delightful it has been to see kids of a similar age really latch on to learning a new skill. Students were absolutely floored by the quantity and variety of yarn and needles your donation made possible. Around the same time the materials arrived, out art teacher was also teaching students how to finger knit which was a great synchronicity. \r\n\r\nSome of my students now knit or crochet in class every day -- not in a way that disrupts their learning just in a way that helps keep them focussed and calm. One of the most beautiful things that has happened is that student knitter has made a ton of little squares and rectangles. I took a picture of them for the thank yous and was suddenly swarmed by other students admiring them. They asked if they could have one to fidget with and the student who made them said yes <3 It was such a cute moment of shared joy!\r\n\r\nYou may know that Minneapolis is currently under a lot of stress. I know my students are benefitting from a focussed distraction whether they are in school or sheltering in their homes. Thank you so much for giving them a way to occupy their minds and hands.","fullyFundedDate":1760672651686,"projectUrl":"project/knitting-our-threads-to-happiness/9762234/","projectTitle":"Knitting our Threads to Happiness","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Johnston","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9267698"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_40576","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":334,"numTeachers":42,"percentFrplEligible":88,"percentAsian":8,"percentBlack":53,"percentWhite":9,"percentIndigenous":4,"percentLatinx":18,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"8.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":66.2,"schoolId":40576,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Anwatin Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Anwatin Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/minnesota/minneapolis-public-schools/anwatin-middle-school/40576"}
