Encouraging regular water intake also builds lifelong healthy habits and reduces reliance on sugary beverages. Each classroom Calming Kit contains a stress ball, a fidget, a small container of slime, noise cancelling headphones, colored pencils and mindfulness coloring sheets. \r\nWhen student are struggling to regulate emotionally, it can be difficult for teachers at the middle school level to help students to cope. All students need to be taught coping strategies. By providing each classroom with a Calming Kit, we are supporting the teacher and the students. If we can teach students appropriate ways to cope with their stress or anxiety while in the classroom, this will prevent them from being sent to the counselor or social worker's office to help them regulate their emotions. Students who do not have the ability to regulate their own emotions, will often struggle with their grades and attendance causing them more stress and anxiety. \r\nIt is our hope that our middle school students will thrive academically and emotionally. Since providing the Calming Kits to each classroom, we have noticed that more students are choosing to remain in the classroom.
