My students were beyond excited and grateful when they saw all of the materials that were purchased for them. They loved getting to explore and build using the building blocks, dominoes, magnetic tiles, straw connectors, and playdough. Anytime students get an indoor recess or free time as a class behavior reward, they immediately ask to pull out the building materials. \r\n One of the main purposes for asking for these materials was for the materials to be used in a culminating project for our science unit called \"The Ultimate Playground\". The students have been learning about different forces used in creating playground equipment, fair attractions, and rollercoasters. To show their understanding about forces, students had to work in teams to create an attraction that they would want to include as part of their own ultimate playground. They then had to present to the class and explain what they created, how it worked, and which forces were at work. The groups designed some creative attractions ranging from bumper cars to swings to water slides. They also realized how difficult it was to create some of their ideas and they had to rethink their plan of action. \r\n Thank you again for donating to our classroom. Beyond the culminating project, the students continue to build and design on a regular basis. They build houses, small cars, and even continue to build small rides and attractions.
