Now we have a clean space with comfy seating where students can rest for a moment during the busy day. This has been used daily so far!! With your generosity, over 50 students were able to participant in an indirect service project. One leadership role students take on in 6th grade is that of the \"Student Ambassador\" who supports new students as they transition into our building. Using the laminator we were able to create passes for lanyards that help our new students identify their student ambassador in the crowd. We have a large building with many wings and rooms so it means a lot to have a buddy! Also, we will be able to save student's art projects and work in the future. We are looking forward to discovering new and many ways to use this wonderful gift! Everyone enjoys writing a positive note and many are employing their creative skills on the post cards. \r\n\r\nAs we build this muscle, we hope to keep this as a practice for our staff, expand these connections beyond our staff meeting time, and create more refrigerator-worthy notes. This project was a direct result of student interest related to their service project. \r\n\r\nA few eighth grade leaders organized and facilitated the workshop where students in sixth and seventh grades worked in small groups to make blankets. This opportunity allowed them to practice their leadership as well as communicate instructions in both English and Spanish. Additionally, the student leaders explained to the class about animal shelters and how a fleece blanket can provide comfort and communicate care. \r\n\r\nThis hands-on learning experience was so important for students and was filled with moments of connection and collaboration.
