This past October, just a week after receiving the folders, Chamber Choir used them for the first time at a wedding we were hired to sing for. Having to learn four songs for the wedding was going to be too great of a task, and having folders made the performance possible.\r\nOver the years we have combined forces with the Napa Valley Chorale as well as the Vallejo Symphony to sing masterworks and have needed to have matching folders. We have borrowed folders from other organizations or simply gone without. My 60 students with reading challenges are benefitting by having the joy of a physical book in hand, learning reading strategies for accommodations, and modeling of reading love! \r\n\r\nMy school district has provided us with a good ELA curriculum, but not full texts of the books we are reading because often the entire text can be found online. Having a physical book changes the idea of \"reading\" in their minds from a casual thing they do on social media to something higher, more formal, more metacognitive. \r\n\r\nSince only 6 of my 60 students said they were read to at home, most of them have not practiced reading strategies they can transfer across the curriculum. Thanks to your support, they are growing those skills. \r\n\r\nI read the text aloud with students following along in their own copy of the book. Not only are they getting exposure to higher vocabulary and modeling of pronunciation and pacing, but they are getting the opportunity to discuss and love the experience of being Readers.\r\n\r\nYour gift is changing lives for the better, and maybe even changing the world.
