There are 25 third graders working hard in the Room 301 community. We have the distinct honor of being the first public elementary school in North America. The classroom is rich in culture, languages, and life experiences as we have an extremely diverse student population.
We are working tirelessly to become voracious readers, strong mathematicians, problem solvers, and engaged citizens.
We are learning everything about Massachusett's history, the wonders of multiplication and division, reading about the struggles in obtaining books around the world, and writing across many genres.
My Project
Now that we are halfway through the year, our 3rd graders are getting prepared for the 4th grade. We are working on memorizing our multiplication facts, writing informational texts about the Wampanoag Indians, and sharing our first class chapter book (it is a Magic Tree House book....they are loving it!). With that, some students are sometimes struggling to keep up with all the demands of our curriculum during the school day. It has nothing to do with their motivation, it just takes them either longer or they need more supports to access the information.
These headphones and Chromebooks will allow me to partner with families to support the learning at home.
I have been working with families all year to see how I can support the learning at home to help close the learning gaps some students have. These Chromebooks would enable me to support some of my struggling learners by sending a Chromebook home for the rest of the year to participate in some engaging, and adaptive programs that would meet them where they are at. This would replace their homework and would teach students the 21st-century skills they need in addition to supporting the learning that is occurring during the day. I will be utilizing Google Classroom to provide more direct feedback to students, in addition, to set kids up on Zearn so I can closely monitor their growth and areas for improvement in math. The colored paper and cardstock is to help design some beautiful binders of materials for the students and to help showcase their learning in the classroom.
