Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a school that serves the most fantastic students in the entire Bronx, NY. My students are resilient and bright from the community where I live, and I work too. My students deserve the best experiences and resources to continue learning. There is no doubt that returning in person this school year has been full of many challenges, and one of them is the transition for many students into the school physical environment. One of the areas I want to continue supporting my students is being proactive and problem-solvers rather than reacting. The more aware my students are about their choices, the more capable they will feel to make healthy choices. Health and wellness are a priority right now. I want to continue supporting my students with resources and projects to enhance their learning and build their relationships with others. I want my students to receive wall decals that they can place at their home/study areas to nourish their resilience and growth mindset at this challenging time. I also envision providing my students with healthy snacks throughout the day and their teachers with calming kits the students can use at their desks to gain self-regulation and self-care.
My Project
I requested the snack items and items for my students, and these already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go.
These materials will make a difference in my student's lives by providing them with the essentials for their physical and mental health needs.
As a result, my students will eat when they are hungry, and they will know from where to get food when they need something to eat. In addition, the board game will provide my students with the opportunity to explore and practice healthy coping skills for them to engage with others. The game is helpful for students to follow directions and engage with others. Moreover, the journals and pens will support my students in expressing themselves by writing their feelings and what is in their minds while gaining the self-skills to support their health and wellness. The donation to this project will help improve my students' understanding of and acquire the competency skills to continue to grow as they continue learning to take care of themselves. When I greet the students in the morning, I want to give them inspirational stickers to boost confidence as they start their school day. Implementing these daily will ensure my students see themselves as their first advocate for their health and wellness.
