This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students live in a low income community, and many of their parents do not have the resources to promote their academic growth. Students constantly ask for pencils to borrow to complete their homework assignments and books to read over the weekend. Despite these obstacles, my students enter the classroom every day so eager to learn. My students are faced with daily challenges in their community. I strive daily to make the classroom a safe haven for them. My students have a love for learning and I want to make sure that they have all of the resources they need.
My Project
We have many homeless kids and families in our school. We try to provide these kids with the items they might need after school hours. I want to provide them with snacks so that they can have something to snack on over the weekend.
Long weekends are especially hard, so we pack ziplock bags with non-perishable food they can snack on until they come back to school for quick snacks.
I have requested items the kids like such as cookies, chips, crackers, and fruit snacks. I purchase water and juice so that they can take home with them as well. These items will not ruin in their backpacks and therefore when they get hungry they know they always have something to eat.
