Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 4th-grade students are creative, thoughtful, and are always curious about new learning! They love hands-on activities that allow them to think critically and use problem-solving strategies to help come up with different solutions. They come to school each day ready to learn despite the challenges they face at home or at school.

Resources are difficult to come by when teaching in an urban area.

Our school is located in the city where crime has affected the families greatly. Much of the community is unemployed which makes it difficult for students to be prepared for school. I do my best to provide my students with what they need to be successful on a daily basis. Often, I too, don't have the necessary resources for myself and have to improvise in the classroom or at home when teaching.

Each student loves learning and shows it in their own way. My classroom is made up of many learners which allow for a variety of learning strategies to ensure that each student's needs are met. They are a great group of kids, who keep me excited about teaching every day!

My Project

Many of my students come from low-income households where they come to school with an empty stomach and return home with no food on their table. My students need healthy snacks to help them remain focused throughout the day. These healthy snacks and fruit juice boxes will ensure students will be successful in the classroom because they will have the necessary "fuel" in their bodies to stay energized and motivated.

These snacks and juice boxes will help to make sure students can think effectively because their stomachs will be full and they will be able to concentrate better in class.

The snacks will also help students focus on what they need to do in the classroom.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
