My students need personal mailboxes to store homework, parent letters and personal items during the school day.

I work in an inner city school district where all students are eligible for free lunch. We have a very diverse population of students, many of whom are first generation American citizens. Their parents are hard-working individuals who value education. I have twenty-nine students of different reading abilities and grade levels. I also have a student who is completely visually impaired and a student newly arrived from a refuge camp in Uganda. My students are enthusiastic and boisterous. They greet each day ready to work and learn. Their future aspirations range from being a famous ballerina to being the next president. Some of my students come from homes with financial instability and familial difficulties. However, each day these students walk into school with a smile and a kind word for their teachers and peers. They are a true inspiration!
I recently moved up from first grade to third grade. As a dutiful teacher I brought up everything I could. However, class sizes vary based on grade level. My maximum number of students in first grade was 24. Now my classroom can go up to 29 students. Therefore, I am lacking 5 of everything!
All 29 of my students need mailboxes.
In these mailboxes they can keep their classroom assignments, homework and any communication that I need to send home. It will help them remain organized and keep all of their belongings in a safe place. Currently I have students who do not have mailboxes. We tried sharing mailboxes but that just led to students taking home the wrong papers. Instead I have fashioned mailboxes for them out of an old storage unit. If you know anything about kids you know they are quick to yell, "this isn't fair!" It would be so nice if all 29 students could have the same mailboxes.
