I am a first grade teacher at an amazing public school in NC. My 21 students come to school from various backgrounds and experiences. They are eager and inquisitive, and their desire to learn keeps me on my toes! This is my 13th year teaching and I can't think of a better school or grade level to spend each and every day learning from my students! Through classroom observation and research, I know my students learn best by seeing, hearing, touching, and exploring. I enjoy the challenge and love watching my children's faces as they learn through exploration and experimentation. The materials requested will help all my students explore and build their inquiry skills, scientific reasoning, and build upon their observation skills. Owl what...Why, pellets of course! What better way for my students to SEE what owls eat and what happens when an animal doesn't chew it's food than to actually dissect an owl pellet. This hands-on, inquiry based, activity will allow my students to build essential background knowledge by dissecting an owl's meal. Your donation will provide a variety of different sized owl pellets, a poster to help identify the bones we find in the pellets, and a book about owls! In addition your donation will enable my students to develop critical thinking skills that will help them solve real world problems and to become a lifelong learners. So, yes, we really do want to LOOK and SEE what an owl coughed up! After completing these hands-on activities, they will be sure to remember some amazing facts about owls!
