Help me give my students a Lego Mindstorms Robot Kit so each class can build their own robot.

My Students

My students are inquisitive, creative, and eager to learn about the world around them. They want opportunities to figure things out on their own, to struggle, and to be successful. Our school is small, around 400 students, and located on the beautiful Crystal Coast of North Carolina. Many of our students are from economically disadvantaged homes. We also have a fairly large population of military families and they move around often. This causes the students to be at many different levels even though they are all in the same grade.

I want my classroom to be a place where learning is fun and the students feel confident in themselves regardless of their differing abilities.

They love learning but the way in which they learn varies. I want to offer them multiple venues for learning and expose them to various tools for learning.

My Project

This year our school is using a new hands-on approach in our College and Career Ready Lab. The students work with a partner to go through different modules related to several different college or career options. Some of the choices are Veterinary Medicine, Forensic Science, Child Development, and Home Maintenance. One of the most popular modules is Robotics. The students use Legos Mindstorms Kits to build and program a variety of robots.

Each class needs their own kit for the Lego Mindstorms module.

I was given 3 kits but I have 6 classes. The building process takes several class periods. This means classes have to take apart what they do at the end of each class. If each class could have their own kit the students would be able to accomplish more each day.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
