Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work with students from various backgrounds and skill levels. These are enthusiastic students who are seeking resources and materials that match their energy and interest levels. Working in a low-income school district, it is often difficult to find resources that hold the attention of my students.

I want to do everything in my power to allow my students to have the materials that they need so that they can be career and college ready.

Although many of my students may have to face several obstacles on a daily basis, I want them to understand that although something may be difficult, it does not mean it is impossible. This mindset is one that I would like to instill into my students so that they are able to look at an obstacle not as a dead end, but as a hill to climb.

My Project

As a reading teacher, I have found one of my biggest challenges has been getting students motivated just to pick up a book. I want to provide my students with a robust selection of diverse titles to target their individual interests and personalities. These books will then be used during independent reading activities.

I want to ensure that I can expose my students to as many varied selections of books as possible to spark their imagination.

By providing the flint needed to create this spark within my students, I will be leading my students down the path to becoming lifelong readers. It is undeniable that literacy is essential for success in the modern world. I want my students to possess the tools that they need in order to pursue whatever aspirations they have in life. Books are the key that my students will use to unlock their dreams.
