Through the lives of women like Fannie Lou Hamer, Mildred Loving, and Dolores Huerta, my students are learning that one voice 'can spark change', and that courage often begins with small acts.\r\n\r\nThey are building confidence, empathy, and critical thinking, but more importantly, they are beginning to see that 'they, too, can make a difference' in their schools, in \r\ntheir families, and in the world.\r\nIn our classroom, reading is an invitation to feel, to question, and to grow.\r\nWe read together, sometimes out loud, and pause to talk about what matters. I see students lean in, light up, and ask, \"Is this a true story?\"\" or \"Could I do that too?\" We reflect, we write, we connect, and we learn that stories can shape us.\r\nReading isn't quiet in our room. It's alive! It's shared! It's meaningful!\r\n\r\nI've seen girls who once stayed silent in discussions now speak up with strength. They see themselves in these stories and feel proud. I've seen boys reflect on what it means to be strong, not just in body, but in kindness and in standing up for others.\r\n\r\nSome students have told me, \"This is the first time I've read a book where someone looked like me.\" That moment, that recognition is powerful. It changes how they see themselves.\r\n\r\nMy students are full of potential, but many don't have access to the kinds of books that show them what they're truly capable of. With your support, we can change that.\r\nThese stories will open their eyes, touch their hearts, and spark their dreams. They will remind every child that their voice matters, and that they, too, can change the world.","fullyFundedDate":1761947327453,"projectUrl":"project/strong-voices-strong-minds/9838510/","projectTitle":"Strong Voices, Strong Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jordan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2795583_orig.jpg?crop=800,800,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1707743486603","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2795583"},{"teacherId":9823970,"projectId":8956785,"letterContent":"I want to sincerely thank you for your generous donations that helped bring new headphones and essential classroom supplies to my students. These resources have made an immediate difference in the way they learn each day. With new headphones, my students can fully engage in individualized reading and phonics lessons without distractions. This allows them to move at their own pace, listen to text-to-speech supports, and practice decoding and comprehension in a focused way. \r\n\r\nThe students were so excited the first day they saw the box arrive! It's been amazing to see how much more confident they are during reading centers and online assessments. For my students who struggle most with reading, the ability to clearly hear sounds, words, and stories through their devices has helped them stay motivated and proud of their progress. They especially appreciate that they each have their own individual pair and do not have to share with students in other classes! \r\n\r\nThank you again for supporting our classroom.
