Help me give my students 50 bright, colorful, and fun jigsaw puzzles for my first graders to cooperatively work on with their 4th grade Buddies!

My Students

My 1st graders are young, eager, enthusiastic, energetic, and curious learners. My 1st graders love expressing their thoughts and ideas about the world around them. They especially love sharing about their interests and things they are passionate about.

I love when my students show their confidence to express themselves.

It is especially rewarding when I see my students develop an understanding that even though we may not always agree with one another, we should respect each others thoughts and opinions.

My Project

My students meet once a week with their 4th grade buddies to read together. Some of my 1st graders are the only child in the family, so having a 4th grade buddy is like having a big brother or sister.

While literacy is very important and essential to our program, my fourth grade colleague and I want more opportunities for our children to interact, have fun, and learn more about each other.

In addition to reading, we organize "Puzzle Day" with the buddies on alternating weeks. My 1st graders and their 4th grade buddies would read one week and then cooperatively work on jigsaw puzzles the next week, and so on. My students and their buddies need challenging jigsaw puzzles that are age appropriate to share with their 4th grade buddies.

This would be an opportunity for my 1st graders to develop their: language skills, strengthening their oral language and vocabulary; social skills/character building and cooperative learning skills including: good sportsmanship, teamwork, problem solving, being respectful, responsibility, sharing, and taking turns.
