My students need yoga mats, gripper socks, and yoga blocks. Hyperactivity , self control, and stress control are skills my kids need. They are learning that through yoga. We need these items for safety comfort.
Our classroom services a wide variety of students. The common denominator is that every student within these walls has a special need and requires special services in order to become successful in their academic career.
Students within this classroom range in grade from kindergarten to third grade.
A wide range of disabilities are serviced including autism, deafness, blindness, downs syndrome, cognitive delay, severe ADHD, and sensory processing disorders.
The common theme among students is they either need sensory input where they can use their senses to explore the environment around them in a very structured way or they need a decrease in sensory input and have distractions (sights, smells, sounds, etc) removed from their environment to that they can settle themselves.
My Project
My students all have a variety of needs. Hyperactivity, self control, and stress brought from home all contribute to their ability to focus and learn while at school.
Recently we have began yoga in the mornings to teach control, mindfulness, and children to relax and release their stress prior to beginning academics for the day.
This practice is really helping students to relax and calm their minds in the morning.
The room we use does not have carpet. It has a tile floor. Therefore we are in need of yoga mats and gripper socks for student safety. Yoga blocks and also be used to help students keep balance.
We really feel this practice is increasing the academics of our students and would love to provide the correct tools to help strengthen their practice.
