This group of third graders are eager, hardworking and excited to dig deep into third grade! The school has a high volume of military families meaning these students face many challenges that most adults never experience themselves. Third grade is a difficult year for students since they will begin taking the state standardized LEAP test. It takes hard work, focus and a lot of encouragement for these students to meet the state standards and make our school proud!
My third graders are overcomers!
I push my students everyday to overcome all obstacles that get in their way. They set high and demanding goals and work day after day to reach those goals. I expect them to work collaboratively with each other, participate in deep discussions, read complex texts and write lengthy essays. This is a lot for eight and nine year olds, but they always overcome and have fun along the way!
My Project
Third grade students are required to write multiple paragraph essays in all subjects. All forty-three students are asked to write responses in reading, writing and social studies in my class alone. That is a lot of paper, staples and notebooks. In order to help them become better writers, we need materials for them to write on.
The donations to this project will provide my students with more materials to use in writing and will help our class improve our writing scores this year.
Each student in my class will create a writing folder to hold all of their class published writings. This will allow the students and their parents to see their progress in writing and will be used as a writing portfolio. The staples will be used to staple their multi-page responses and drafts to help keep them organized during the writing process. The notebooks will be used as Social Studies notebooks. Students will take notes, write responses and store maps and materials in this notebook. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated and will allow my students to 'Write Their Own Future'!
