Our new classroom rug and books have brought so much joy to our room. From sitting together on the rug for lessons in phonics and math to story time with the teacher and independent reading time, our new rug has space for it all, and with the new books, they can spread out and read often!\r\n When the students walked in and saw our new rug and books they were so excited. I continuously hear them say, \"we have to take care of it, it's brand new\". With the circle design on the rug they all know exactly where to sit and it helps me easily see who is there and who might be absent that day. The new books are right on level for them to build fluency in reading.\r\n Again, our rug is the center of our room. We read independently, with partners, and together as a class. Students practice building fluency, learning new vocabulary, making predictions, asking questions, identifying important details, and thinking deeply about characters, settings, and the lessons stories can teach us.\r\n\r\nNew books give my students opportunities to explore different genres, discover new topics, and find characters and stories they can connect with. They also help students see themselves as real readers who can choose books based on their interests and read for both learning and enjoyment.\r\n\r\nOne especially exciting part of adding new books to our library is having multiple books from the same series. When a student finishes a book they love, they don't have to wonder what to read next—they can immediately pick up the next book and keep going! This encourages students to read more, stick with longer series, and become invested in characters and stories.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite things to see is a student who finishes a book and immediately starts looking for another one. Some students who were once hesitant to pick up a book are beginning to find stories they truly enjoy, while stronger readers are challenging themselves with longer books and new genres. Watching students recommend books to one another, share what they're reading, and get excited about a new book is exactly why building our classroom library matters.\r\n\r\nEvery new book adds another opportunity for a child to practice, grow, and discover a love of reading. We are so grateful for you!! Our students were so excited to help us open our new gifts. We've rolled out our two beautiful rugs, and they are perfect in each learning space. Each student has their own circle to sit on, which helps us teach about personal space. Also, the design pulls the room together while not being overstimulating... WIN!!\r\n The magnetic letters and USA puzzle have already been a big hit! We are learning about jobs across our country, and these help give a visual to our students. We know these and the play construction set will provide years of fun and learning. \r\n I don't know who's more excited about the laminating sheets, my paras or me! I have already out the magnets to use, and plan to organize my filing cabinet with the new hanging files this week. It's such a blessing to have this project funded. You are now part of our forever journey of loving on and educating our sweet students with special needs.
