Stepping into my classroom of 12 students with cognitive disabilities is like stepping into another world. They are the most loving kiddos you'll ever meet! They are young and eager to learn, but they require LOTS of repetition, support, and redirect. Many of them come from areas outside of our school zone, because this class is best suited to their specific learning needs. Some are non-verbal and some are chatterboxes. Our days are spent working primarily on literacy, math, and social skills. The majority of the class are emergent readers and early math learners. We use flashcards daily to strengthen their skills. They LOVE to be read to! One of my favorite parts of the day is hearing their giggles as I read. My goal is to make learning hands-on and lots of fun. My classroom babies are rock stars, and I'm proud to play a part in helping them show the world what they're capable of!!
