This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from all backgrounds, races, ethnicity, and cultures! In my classroom, we strive to accept and celebrate our differences. By doing this, we are able to find what makes brings us together as individuals and as a whole group.
I often find myself challenging my students to push themselves to embrace their own differences as well as their peers.
It is important that as my students expand their own understanding in order to spread their knowledge both in and outside of school.
My Project
For our next project, students will be reading the inspiring memoir, I am Malala, based on the true story of a young woman standing up for her education in a war torn country. Students will then use her story to help create their own, thinking about the impact of sharing one's story to inspire others. Malala's journey might be unique but the journey to stand up for one's beliefs, ideals, and future in education is something that all children can relate to. My hope is that my students will find Malala's story one that will influence them to share their own personal journey and how that makes them who they are today.
