My class is a diverse group of second graders with a variety of academic strengths and areas of growth. This inclusion class is made up of students who benefit from the general education setting, students with special needs, and English Language learners, all with varying academic, language, social-emotional and behavioral needs.
Naturally inquisitive, social, and impressionable, this group of children deserves to experience the pure fun of learning new things, asking questions, working with peers, strengthening independence and feeling successful each day as they learn about themselves and the world around them.
My Project
My group of 7 and 8-year-olds always have a lot to say, and we're trying to teach them to put their energy and words to good use as writers. Helping them see the power their words can have on an audience is instrumental in their learning at this age.
With notebooks and dry erase materials, our budding writers can practice writing their ideas, thoughts, wonderings and predictions.
With notebooks, the students will be able to write over time, documenting and measuring their progress. And with dry erase materials, they will be able to practice the necessary phonics skills and conventions in a low-stakes learning environment.
