My Students

Our students are a part of a Pre K program for four and five year olds in Newport News, VA. They enter the class daily with bright smiles for their teachers and for each other. As the students enter the classroom they are actively searching and noticing and inquiring about the activities awaiting them throughout the classroom. Daily the students are engaged in listening and retelling, counting and sorting, drawing and writing as well as building and problem solving as they navigate the world around them.

Our school accepts those that are identified as academically high risk and we provide school readiness activities, in full-day programs.

Most of our students come from low-income households. Every child receives a free breakfast and lunch meal each day. We have 20 students in our classroom that will benefit greatly from this DonorsChoose project.

My Project

My students love writing on whiteboards! We have introduced LCD writing tablets in the classroom, so I know they will love LCD writing tablets at home as well. I know this will be a wonderful surprise for my little Pre-K scholars and their families. This electric writing will be great for fine motor practice, getting their finger muscles working and it will also be a fun way to learn and keep my little ones engaged!

Pre-writing skills are the building blocks for efficient handwriting!

Research indicates the following: early fine motor writing skills are an important school readiness skill associated with later academic success. Writing by hand in the early years helps to support the development of reading skills. Writing in Pre-K can get messy, but with these tablets, and a press of a button, we have a clean slate! We truly appreciate your support! Thank you, for being so generous and taking an interest in our classroom learning!
