The excitement on my students' faces when they first saw the new sand was priceless. As soon as it was introduced, they eagerly gathered around the sensory table, squeezing, molding, scooping, and exploring its unique texture. Many students commented on how soft and different it felt compared to regular sand, and they couldn't wait to create castles, shapes, and imaginative creations.\r\n\r\nThe kinetic sand has become a favorite choice during center time and is helping students develop important fine motor skills as they pinch, roll, press, and shape the sand. It has also sparked rich conversations among classmates as they work together, share ideas, and describe what they are creating. I have observed students practicing problem-solving skills, using new vocabulary, and engaging in cooperative play while exploring the sensory materials.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the year, the kinetic sand will be incorporated into literacy, math, and science activities. The cardstock is used for student created books! Our preschoolers have been learning letter names and letter sounds all school year long. Now, they are applying that letter knowledge to their writing and creating their own books! I want them to be durable and long lasting, so we print on cardstock. Then, the books are laminated and put through the binding machine, and added to our classroom library. Students love reading their own stories! We used hot glue for the gumball machines we made during The Ball Study. We have been investigating balls all month and our culminating activity was gumball math! We used dice to join numbers and used Skittles for gumballs. It was such a fun activity!
