Hello! I am a first year first grade teacher in North Carolina. I teach at a low income, at risk school. Many of our students come from disadvantaged homes, and we are very culturally diverse.
I am in desperate need of basic supplies. At the beginning of the year, I asked for parents to donate supplies for the class to supplement the minimal allotment given to us by our school district. Unfortunately, I did not get many supplies due to the fact that many families in our school are financially strapped, and the supplies that I bought myself are running extremely low. In this proposal, I am asking for jumbo crayons, large beginner pencils, colored construction paper, and lined paper to write on.
To start with, most first graders like to write with large pencils. It is easier for their hands to grip the larger pencil. I am asking for several sets of these, so that they will last for the entire year.
I am also asking for jumbo crayons. Regular crayons break so easily. The few parents that donated crayons only donated regular sized crayons. We need jumbo sized crayons.
In addition to crayons and pencils, I would like to ask for writing paper. Ruled paper has solid lines and a dotted middle line. Story paper is paper that is blank at the top and lined with solid lines and a dotted middle line. Students can draw a picture in the blank part and write a story on the ruled lines. We write everyday, and we use a lot of lined paper. I try to encourage students to write longer stories; however, I have very little lined paper to give them.
Also, I am asking for various colors of construction paper for the students to use for their different art projects in my class, including creating covers for their larger stories.
I hope that with some of these basic supplies for my first graders, we can have a successful year.
Thank you for taking the time to read my proposal.
