Words Work

My students need manipulatives for word work center activities. They need magnetic letters, and other materials I can label with letters to use to build words.

My Students

The first and second graders are a very active group. With a blend of two grade levels the dynamic of our class has a wide spread of learners with different abilities and needs. These students are very visual learners, and enjoy working through a hands-on approach.

Our school is a place where all learners are welcome, and we have a built a sense of community together this year.

This group of students has been working hard to be in charge of their learning, and making responsible choices.

My Project

I will label clothespins, cups, and popsicle sticks with letters so that my students have moveable objects to help them practice building, sounding out, and reading words. Having physical objects to move and sort while working on spelling will help my students who are hands on learners to engage in activities.

Giving students a variety of materials to use when practicing word building will allow them to feel in charge of their learning by giving them the power of choice.

My students need manipulative materials to use when working on word building. They will be able to use Alphamagnet letters to build sight words. Given there will be a multitude of new objects for word work, we will use Sterilite tubs to keep our classroom tidy. My students can also use Dry Erase Lap Boards to practice their spelling words in seating of their choice due to the mobility of the whiteboards.
