My Project

My students are bright, curious and eager to learn but they face many challenges with communication and language development. Along with learning to communicate their wants and needs, they are working hard to expand their vocabularies, build associations between words and strengthen their understanding of the world around them.

Having engaging, hands-on materials can make a world of difference in helping them reach their communication goals.

To support my students, I am seeking funding for therapy materials that will help them improve both expressive and receptive language. Materials include task cards which my students can use to practice (1) identifying and labeling functional objects, actions and concepts, (2) categorization or how to group words based on shared characteristics and (3) making connections or associations between words to improve their ability to communicate their thoughts.

For many of my students, learning new words and concepts takes extra time and repetition. By using interactive materials (such as puzzles), I can create lessons that are fun, functional and effective. These materials will provide structured learning opportunities, allowing my students to build their communication in a meaningful way. They will also help my students build a stronger foundation in language -- setting them up for greater success in communication and learning.
