This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My first and second grade readers are currently working below grade level with their reading skills. But that hasn't stopped their spirit! Where there is a will, there is a way. I am determined to find the way forward for these little learners!

Word mapping is the answer I've been looking for.

Following the science of reading, phoneme-grapheme mapping is an instructional activity where students link the 'sound' part of a word to the 'letter' part of a word. This skill is critical for students to make the jump from phonemic awareness to phonics.

These hand2mind reading resources will provide my students with the opportunity to practice this skill with excitement and ease. The goal is to get my students to become word mapping wizards. These trays, wands, and magnetic letter discs are sure to be a fun and interactive way for my struggling students to develop letter sound connections.
