Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I team teach and have two wonderful classes of bilingual students. My classes are composed of English language learners, students with dyslexia, gifted students, and students with special needs.
Our mission as an IB campus is to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
At our Title I school, the vast majority of my hard-working students come from low-income households. I aim to provide them with a nurturing environment that encourages them to grow into productive and kind human beings.
My Project
Women are majorly underrepresented in STEM fields. People of color are majorly underrepresented in STEM fields. As a Title 1, bilingual teacher, whose entire class is made up of students of color- where fifty percent of my students are female, I find these statistics alarming.
March is Women's History Month and I would like to give my students books with the representation of women as mathematicians.
I have chosen biographies of women who achieved great accomplishments in the math field. I intentionally included women of color.
My students need to see themselves as mathematicians and learning about the path these mathematicians paved for us, will be a great example for them.
