Help me give my students an enriching, live presentation about Wise and Outstanding Owls by the Lindsey Wildlife Naturalists, who will teach my students how owls adapt to survive in their habitats and what makes them efficient predators.
This project expired on November 15, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
I work with students who are English language learners and have learning disabilities. They also come from families that struggle with paying bills and affording school supplies and books. Despite these challenges, my students bring many strengths to the classroom, including a passion for learning and a willingness to take risks as they acquire the building blocks of reading.
My students love math, science, computers, and art, and they love learning how things work.
They are curious about the world and are eager to improve their literacy skills.
The Lindsey Wildlife Naturalists will bring a variety of owls to our classroom and compare and contrast the different species so students can learn about their characteristics and adaptations for survival. Students will learn how these owls hunt at night for their prey. My students will be able to connect their knowledge about what owls eat since they have already dissected owl pellet kits and learned that owls eat a variety of small mammals.
My students are eager to read, write, and learn about their natural world when given opportunities such as visitors from the Lindsey Wildlife Experience, who will come to our classroom to share their knowledge about wise owls and how they survive in our community.
This field trip in our classroom will open the hearts and minds of my students, who are eager to learn about the natural world and about owls who live in Contra Costa County. This hands-on experience will broaden their understanding about the food chain and how owls and other predators survive. My students will learn about biology and environmental science as possible careers to choose from.
