Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
BINCA welcomes recent immigrants and English language learners new to Boston. In the halls of BINCA, you'll hear Haitian Creole, Spanish, Vietnamese, Somali, Chinese, Portuguese, and more....
Our students are success stories.
Although faced with a myriad of challenges in their lives, such as trauma, homelessness, having to work to pay rent, adjusting to a new language and culture, and other responsibilities that are emotionally demanding, they find a way to persist. BINCA has sent many students to a wide range of colleges and other exciting post-secondary opportunities like Americorps. We are proud of the sense of community we've created within the walls of our school, and the academic and social lessons our students take with them when they graduate.
My Project
BINCA students are most often from tropical countries like the Dominican Republic, Cape Verde, and Haiti. They frequently come to Boston with no winter experience and are starting from scratch in building a winter wardrobe.
Help us help our students adjust to a new climate by providing them with a lightweight, fashionable jacket to wear through the winter months in Boston.
We stock a clothing closet at school, with jeans, hats, and sweatshirts. We are in need of some winter jackets for guys, sizes M-XL, to round out our offerings as winter approaches. Please help us make winter more bearable for our new Bostonians!
