Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are the most hilarious, curious, and resilient group of second graders I've ever met! They spent an entire school year learning from home and now they are PUMPED to be back in the building. This year we are reimaging how our classroom works to meet their needs.

Kids learn best when their needs are respected and met and you can help!

While my little friends where home, they were able to sit comfortably, move their bodies, fidget, make noise, and learn with much more independence than normal. Coming back to a room full of other people's noise, plastic chairs that are little too big, a less flexible schedule, and limited room to move due to COVID protocols isn't what they were expecting for their grand return to school. We're all making due and practicing the flexibility we learned last year but there is definitely room for improvement. That's where you come in!

My Project

Movement and play based activities are essential for young learners! Our second grade kiddos are the most engaged in learning when our environment is organized and meets them where they are. To do this we need appropriate alternative seating, cooperative play opportunities for breaks and recess, and clear, tidy signage to help them navigate classroom routines independently. We will use the stools to provide students with alternative seating, the play mat for indoor recess (we've got the winter blues), and the laminator for basically every sign, learning activity, and craft we do in the classroom.
