My students and I are in the second year of a 2/3 loop. Looping creates a close relationship and mutual commitment to one another. It also provides us more time together to grow while knowing and understanding our weaknesses and strengths.
The students in my class (and their families) have come from all over the world.
Many of them have had to learn or are learning English as a second language. They love to share information about their home countries which, in turn, provides the other students with some real life connections to other places around the world.
My Project
In a previous DonorsChoose.org project, my students received various seats to help them focus. The students have been happy to have the different choices for seats. Some of the seats are about increased comfort over the school provided chairs and others are about being able to move while sitting.
It is clear that my students like to wiggle while they work!
I have observed that balance ball chairs have been amazingly effective in helping students focus on their work. For example, one day I was watching a student bounce on the ball while reading. It was the first time, in a year and a half, that he remained focused on reading his book for the entire reading block! I was at a loss for words as I looked on in amazement.
We need Wobble Cushions and Balance Ball Chairs. The Wobble Cushions are more comfortable for some students, especially those who have difficultly with balance. These seats allow students the same opportunity to get the wiggles out without so much movement.
