Wiggle While You Work!

My students need new seating options to allow them opportunities to find the best learning space for them. My students need clipboards, balance discs and balance balls.

My Students

Active, energetic, caring, curious, and discoverers are just a few words to describe my eager group of 25 kindergartners! They come to school every morning excited to learn and see what we will be doing for the day! I want to grow their curious minds and help them explore to their fullest potential!

On the first day of school my students asked me, "When are we going to learn how to read!?" They have been this eager every single time they enter the classroom and are blossoming as young learners!

My Project

Adding flexible seating into the classroom will allows my students to find the best learning space for them. It is very tough for a kindergartener to sit in a hard chair or criss cross on the carpet during lessons. By providing my students different options on where they want to sit they can see what fits them best and take ownership of their choice.

Some students are more comfortable in a chair, some like laying on the floor, and some like to bounce or stand up while they work.

I have added some flexible seating into my room already and I have seen a huge transformation in my students. They enjoy their choices and it is helping them focus on the task at hand.

The exercise balls and balance discs will help students who need to move around a little more while they work. It will give them the chance to bounce and have a new texture instead of a hard plastic seat. The clipboards will give each student a mobile desk. To continue enhancing learning and flexible seating options we may take our lessons to the carpet, or outside. Some students may like laying on the floor with a clipboard instead of sitting at a table. The storage bins and organizer will help us store the materials in an easy to find way. The students will each have a storage bin in their cubby to keep their own items. They can easily bring that storage bin with them to their learning spot for the day. The organizer will help store extra items for centers and they will be clearly labeled to help foster independence.
