The magnetic fraction tiles have been especially helpful when students are comparing fractions and finding equivalent fractions because they can physically see how different fractions relate to one another. The fraction multipliers have also been a great visual tool for helping students understand how fractions change when we multiply or compare them. We have been using the fraction practice cards during math stations and partner activities, which gives students a chance to practice their skills while working together. One of my favorite moments was watching students use the fraction tiles to build and compare fractions and then explain to their classmates why one fraction was greater than another. It was exciting to see the \"light bulb\" moments happen!\r\n\r\nWhen our materials arrived the students were SO excited! The students immediately wanted to touch, explore, and figure out how everything worked. They especially loved the magnetic fraction tiles because they could move the pieces around and physically build fractions. They thought the funny fraction book was hilarious, and it was a great way to show them that math can be fun and doesn't always have to feel like work. Several students immediately asked, \"When can we use these?\" Seeing their excitement reminded me how powerful it can be to give students materials that allow them to learn by doing.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building our understanding of fractions by comparing, finding equivalent fractions, and eventually adding and subtracting fractions. We will continue using the magnetic tiles and fraction multipliers to help students visualize these concepts before moving toward more abstract problems. The practice cards will be used during math stations so students can continue building confidence and fluency. I also plan to use the funny fraction book as a fun way to introduce or reinforce fraction concepts throughout the year. My goal is for my students to leave our fraction unit not only understanding fractions better, but also feeling confident that they can be successful in math.","fullyFundedDate":1789233307446,"projectUrl":"project/fraction-fun-hands-on-math-for-4th-grad/10609269/","projectTitle":"Fraction Fun: Hands-On Math for 4th Graders","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Whitson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10089619_orig.jpg?crop=1158,1158,x7,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1789090263541","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10089619"},{"teacherId":2380949,"projectId":10258454,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your incredible support of our classroom through DonorsChoose! Your generosity has given my 4th graders the gift of hands-on creativity and collaboration, and the impact has been immediate and remarkable. These materials have become the highlight of our students' day, especially during indoor recess when this Oklahoma heat wave keeps us inside! Instead of defaulting to their iPads, my students now rush to build, create, and problem-solve/play together with these engaging manipulatives.\r\n\r\nThe difference in our classroom has been extraordinary. Students are working together as teams, negotiating designs, sharing ideas, and cheering each other on as they construct elaborate buildings, intricate patterns, and imaginative creations. Morning arrival time has become a buzz of excitement as they eagerly return to their projects from the day before. I've watched shy students come out of their shells as they collaborate with classmates, and I've seen natural leaders emerge as they guide group building challenges. These toys aren't just keeping them busy—they're fostering critical thinking, spatial reasoning, and the kind of cooperative play that helps children develop essential social and emotional skills.","fullyFundedDate":1778021556082,"projectUrl":"project/morning-stem-innovation-lab/10258454/","projectTitle":"Morning STEM Innovation Lab","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Alvarez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2380949_orig.jpg?crop=1242,1242,x0,y45&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754714362952","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/nalvarez"},{"teacherId":10487455,"projectId":10235032,"letterContent":"First of all I want to extend my biggest thanks to you, my students and I are using our new resources every day to build predictable, accessible routines that make our classroom feel comfortable for everyone, something I find truly invaluable. For example, our new rug gives us a spacious place to collaborate and share ideas, while the small stools allow more students to join me at the teacher table for small group instruction and creative thinking. \r\nWhen my students first saw the supplies, they were completely enamored. They absolutely love the rug, and I appreciate the durability of our new classroom mailbox, knowing it will last for years to come gives me a lot of comfort! Having these resources readily available has helped my students feel confident, comfortable, and fully supported in their learning environment. Looking ahead, these materials continue to motivate us through our \"Star Student of the Week\" incentive. \r\nOur weekly star student gets the first pick of classroom jobs, with the handheld push vacuum being a huge favorite for keeping our space tidy, and they also get to sit in our DonorsChoose wobbly chair, which has been a massive hit. Your gifts have completely transformed our classroom from a one-size-fits-all environment into a dynamic learning space that empowers students to choose how and where they learn best. I am already seeing incredible impacts on student engagement, focus, and collaboration. Our new resources—which include wobble stools, seat cushions, and chair bands—are used every single day during reading and math centers, independent work time, and small group instruction. My students love Flexible Fridays and any opportunity to use these new resources. I have several students, who often struggle to stay focused at a traditional desk, however, when they use the wobble stools, or chair bands they \"fidget\"quietly as they work. The new seating options allow all of my students to find a comfortable and supportive position that helps them focus and thrive. The first day the materials arrived, the students were absolutely thrilled! Their faces lit up with excitement when they saw the wobble stools, chair bands, and colorful cushions. They were especially excited about the \"wobble stools\" and couldn't believe they were allowed to sit on wobble seats during class. Their immediate reaction was a mix of awe and pure joy. Beyond their excitement, the new resources have also fostered a greater sense of ownership and responsibility in my students. They now take great pride in choosing their own seating and ensuring the materials are cared for, which builds their self-awareness and self-regulation skills. Your generosity has given our students more than just new seating options; it has given them a voice in their own learning and created a classroom community where every student feels comfortable, supported, and engaged.
