This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our classroom is made up of 28 curious, thoughtful and hardworking students. We begin every day by declaring our promises to each other: to be kind and fair to all, always try our hardest, and to appreciate what we have.

My students come from diverse backgrounds and have varying learning styles and abilities.

Despite any challenges they may face, they come to school every day ready to persevere and embrace all opportunities to learn something new.

Developmentally, third graders have boundless energy. In my classroom, students are able to take movement breaks to increase focus and productivity; however, even with these breaks, students can have a hard time focusing on their learning throughout the school day.

My Project

The addition of 3 Hokki stools into our classroom would give my students the ability to move freely, even when sitting down and working! The lightweight ergonomic stools are a safe, sturdy alternative to typical hard classroom chairs. Students will be able to wiggle while sitting down, enhancing their learning without the interruption of a movement break.

Research suggests that movement improves classroom behavior, academic performance, and the ability to handle stress.

It has been incredible to see what a big hit our first few Hokki stools have been! Students using the Hokki stools are calm, motivated and engaged in a way that they were not previously. The addition of 3 more stools would be the perfect addition to our small group instruction table, and would allow students who need extra support to quickly pick up their stool and move to a different location in the room for teacher support. These stools have made a significant impact in my students' motivation and engagement.
