In our classroom, we have many students who benefit from the support of visual aids and scaffolded language. We are lucky to have the support of a special education teacher that meets with small groups of students to ensure that every child accesses the grade level curriculum. In order to make abstract concepts more visually concrete, we are in need of an easel that we can use at the small group table! The easel would be especially utilized during small group time. In math, teachers could model appropriate problem solving strategies rather than only talking about it. During reading and writing, the easel can be used to display new vocabulary, to provide sentence starters and language support, or to organize student ideas as they brainstorm, for example. We would benefit greatly from the addition of a dry-erase, portable teaching easel.
